Rumana & Mike - Balbirnie House Hotel 25/03/2012

25th April 2012

So here we are, my first wedding of 2012 already! I loved Mike and Rumana's big day so much that it inspired me to start a wedding blog.

By the time the wedding date came around, I already felt like I had known Rumana and Mike for years - when we first met at their consultation I had finally found myself a rival for the title of "Dundee's biggest blether"! I have a feeling that Rumana and I could have chatted for the rest of the week, and I secretly had my fingers crossed for them coming back to book me. Thankfully they didn't keep me holding on too long and soon called back to confirm their booking. The excitement begins!

Fast forward a few months (how time flies!) and it was time for us to have a catch up. I usually like to keep in regular contact with my wedding couples, which is easier than ever these days thanks to Facebook etc, instead of turning up on the day of the wedding after months/weeks of no contact. During one of our chats, Rumana asked me to photograph the Islamic section of their wedding, which would see her and Mike have their forthcoming wedding blessed in traditional Islamic style the day before their Balbirnie wedding. I hadn't experienced this before but I'm happy to say it was a beautiful blessing, with lots of colour, jewellery and a delicious buffet, along with the stunning couple and their families.

One of the biggest benefits of photographing Rumana and Mike, plus their families/bridal party the day before their wedding was the bond it gave me with them all - I had the opportunity to have a chat with everyone, which you sometimes don't get at the wedding due to rushing around photographing everything. I think it made everyone more relaxed around me on the big day and I really feel like I got to know them all.

On the big day, I arrived at Balbirnie House Hotel to find one of the most relaxed bridal parties I've ever seen! It's truly beautiful when I have the opportunity to photograph a couple who are just so excited to be getting married the happiness shines right out of their smiles. It's really catching, and you soon find that all of the guests are happy and smiling too, and even the photographer is grinning like mad!

Clearly I could talk about the wedding of Mike and Rumana for a long time, however I think it might be best if I show you some of my favourite photos from their day. I'd like to say thanks to the couple for making me a part of it, and hope they enjoy their photos for many years to come. :)
