F.A.Q
Frequently Asked Questions Tell me more about you - Who is Kirsty Legg? I was born in Dundee and have lived in the city for most of my life. I attended Menzieshill High School, then moved on to study Web Design and Development at Abertay University. I have a fiance and 2 cats. I'm not much of a party animal, and I'd much rather catch up with friends over lunch than paint the town red. I am by no means quiet though, allegedly I "can talk for Scotland"! How did you get into photography? I started gaining a serious interest in photography around 4-5 years ago, while studying Web Development at university. Photography was actually a great way for me to relax and get away from my computer. I experimented with a compact camera for a year before purchasing my first DSLR camera. As soon as I opened the box for my Nikon D40, I was smitten. Within months I had upgraded to a D80 and discovered I was enjoying photography much more than Web Development. As I gained more experience, I decided to throw caution to the wind and took the first steps towards becoming a professional photographer. What kind of work did you start with? My family live in a village which is quite scenic and has great locations surrounding it. I would photograph landscapes and wildlife in all kinds of weather, and generally anything else that caught my eye. Family and friends let me practice my portraiture on them, and I was asked to do family portraits or kids parties for local people. Once word-of-mouth started to kick in, I thought about turning my passion into a career. How did you get into weddings? Initially, I was a little nervous about approaching wedding photography as weddings are such a big part of peoples lives. I did my first few weddings on a complimentary basis, and made sure the Bride and Groom were aware of my inexperience. As I gained more weddings, I increased my pricing to reflect my experience level. I also learned from an experienced wedding photographer who allowed me to attend weddings as a second shooter, which was completely invaluable. So far I've photographed more than 30 weddings over the last 2 years. Why should I hire you? I always try to put myself in your shoes and understand what you personally expect from a wedding photographer. I'm very easygoing and will happily take the ideas of others onboard, while offering direction and guidance to those who need it. I aim to provide as much choice and flexibility as possible to my clients as well as providing great images at a competitive price. I am reliable and punctual, approachable and professional, as well someone who always looks on the brighter side of life! So you haven't studied photography? Not formally. Photography is such a subjective and practical art form, a qualification is not usually a contributing factor when a client decides to book you. Most clients browse portfolios and arrange a consultation before deciding if the photographer and the work produced suit their requirements. What kind of equipment do you use? I use 2 Nikon D90 cameras and a range of lenses to suit a variety of purposes. I have a purpose-built home studio in my flat, filled with lights, accessories and backdrops. I have equipment that I can rely on to produce great results time and time again, rather than the latest and greatest gadgets. *More questions will be answered as they come* |
